Start a group chat for your block

The goal of Building Blocks is to get as many group chats on as many blocks as possible through Durham. With just a little upfront energy on your part to start the group chat, you will create greater connection and support for your block. Once a group chat is started, usually it quickly takes on a life of its own!

Check out our how-to guide for ideas on how to get this going. Need help or support? Contact me

That’s it! That’s all you have to do!

But if you want to do more…

Organize activities on your block

There is a lot you can do with your block once you are connected with your neighbors! Check out some things you can do on your block here.

Spread the word in your neighborhood

Talk to people on other blocks about this initiative, and encourage them to start their own group chats!

Start a neighborhood-wide group chat

Connect with the other blocks in your neighborhood. Have one person from each block designated as “block coordinator.” Connect the block coordinators on their own neighborhood-wide group chat so that they can communicate. This chat could be used to address needs that people can’t find on their own blocks, or for issues that affect multiple blocks.

Can use a regular text chain or start a WhatsApp group

Connect with our Durham-wide group

As people organize their neighborhoods, I will add a page with info for each neighborhood. Maybe even an interactive map! So let me know which parts of Durham you are organizing!

We can support each other as we try to build our neighborhood networks

Share ideas and resources

Plus connecting across neighborhoods means we will be set up to tackle big issues together in the future
